How the calculator works

The Holston AI Missed Call Calculator estimates the revenue a business loses to unanswered phone calls. It multiplies your missed calls by the share that are new customers, the share who call a competitor instead of calling back, and the share who would have hired you, then by your average job value. It also shows how much an AI receptionist that answers every call could recover.

  1. 01

    Missed calls

Calls per week times the share that go unanswered: busy lines, crews on job sites, lunch breaks, evenings and weekends.

  2. 02

    New callers lost

About half of missed callers are new potential customers (default 50%). Most of them call the next business on the list instead of leaving a message (default 60%).

  3. 03

    Customers lost

The share of those callers who would have hired you if someone had answered (default 40%).

  4. 04

    Revenue lost

Customers lost times your average job value, or customer lifetime value if you enter one. Every assumption can be changed to match your business.

Questions

About missed calls

How much do missed calls cost a small business?

It depends on call volume and job value. A business that gets 60 calls a week, misses a quarter of them, and earns $400 from a typical first job loses about $37,000 a year in customers who called someone else. Use the calculator above with your own numbers.

What is an AI answering service?

An AI answering service, also called an AI receptionist, is a voice agent that answers your business phone 24/7. It answers common questions, books appointments into your calendar, takes messages, and transfers urgent calls to a person. Every call is logged, transcribed, and summarized.

How is an AI receptionist different from a traditional answering service?

A traditional answering service uses call center staff reading a script and usually charges per minute. An AI receptionist answers instantly, never puts callers on hold, knows your services and schedule, and books jobs directly into your calendar. It can also handle many calls at the same time.

Which businesses benefit most?

Contractors and home service companies whose crews are on job sites, medical and dental offices with busy front desks, law firms that want every new client call answered, and any business that gets calls after hours.
